About the Program

Business Succession Planning

This program will focus on succession planning and the sale of family-owned and closely held businesses.

Speaker

James S. Aussem, J.D., AEP® Distinguished

James S. Aussem is a shareholder with Cavitch Familo & Durkin Co., LPA in Cleveland, Ohio, where his practice focuses on business succession planning, mergers and acquisitions, and estates and trusts. He is a former member of the firm’s Board of Directors and former Chair of its Business Practice Group.

Jim is a nationally recognized speaker and instructor on business succession, buying and selling businesses, estate planning, insurance, and trusts and estates. He has presented for numerous professional organizations, including the Society of Financial Service Professionals, AICPA, Ohio State Bar Association, Federal Bar Association, and estate and tax planning institutes.

Jim is an Accredited Estate Planner® Distinguished designee and was inducted into the National Association of Estate Planners & Councils Hall of Fame in 2022. He served as national president of the Society of Financial Service Professionals from 2017–2018 and received its Kenneth Black, Jr. Leadership Award in 2019. He has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America® every year since 2009 in the areas of Corporate Law and Trusts and Estates.

He earned his J.D. from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law and his B.A. from Baldwin Wallace University.
